INSTANTS
Habits can be good or bad, and practice makes permanent, not perfect. So what is one to do when stuck in a rut that shows every sign of becoming indelible? One can either plod on blissfully, or yank the parking brake, and skid off into an entirely new direction. I realized that I needed to try something new.
What if I forgot about editorializing into series and projects, and stopped post-processing every image to the n-th degree? What if I just lifted up the camera, framed up a composition, and released the shutter?
Suddenly, my images showed what I saw and felt at that instant, not what I added to the mix by fiddling with the pictures later. My photographs became more spontaneous, honest, and immediate—they seem to strike home more than my usual output. I look forward to seeing how this fresh, new approach will inform my future work.
