POLYPTYCHS
A lone image, on its own, can have a very powerful impact—once seen, it sometimes can never be forgotten. But there are other ways to tell a story, or make an artistic statement. A musician might release an EP with remixes of a single song, or a playwright might adapt a novel for the stage. In both cases, we are offered new insights into the source material.
In these polyptychs, I tried to do the same, by delving deeper into my subjects to reveal more about them. Except in a few cases, combining details opens up new ways of seeing a subject—whether that’s a baking tray, a lakebed, or a shuttered building.
This technique offers almost limitless possibilities: By layering images, and positioning them carefully within the frame, I can shift from pure photography into graphic design, and explore new ways of telling my story.
